Boxes of papers linked to Biden found in attorney’s Boston office

Nine boxes of documents linked to President Joe Biden were recovered in Boston by the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration at some point in recent months, according to a letter sent by the archives to lawmakers.The discovery is connected to the previous removal of a batch of documents found last year in the Washington office space of Biden’s former think tank. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to lead the investigation into documents found in that location and others associated with Biden. Sen. Ron Johnson, of Wisconsin, and Sen. Chuck Grassley, of Iowa, requested information about the discovery of the records in Boston on Feb. 24 but the response from NARA indicates that it had to consult with the Department of Justice before responding. In the response letter, issued on Tuesday, Acting Archivist of the United States Debra Steidel Wall explains that NARA learned of the existence of the boxes on Nov. 3, 2022, when the agency contacted the president’s personal counsel to arrange the collection of boxes from the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C.At that time, Biden’s attorneys informed NARA that Biden’s former personal attorney, Pat Moore, had moved the boxes from the Penn Biden Center to his law firm in Boston. According to the letter, NARA does not know when the boxes were moved to Boston. The discovery is connected to the previous removal of a batch of documents found last year in the Washington office space of Biden’s former think tank.
